What Is Quartz?
Quartz is a man-made material. By combining natural resources and modern technology, makers of quartz slabs can create beautiful, durable products that evoke the look and feel of natural stone. To make quartz, natural minerals are mined from the Earth, ground up, mixed with resin, and combined with a variety of pigments – slabs created in this way contain about 93% natural quartz and 7% resin.
Quartz countertops have been taking over the market recently, and it’s no wonder – they’re versatile, cost-effective, and beautiful! Intrepid Granite and Marble has a vast selection available in our 30,000 sqft showroom!
Quartz Countertops
Mixing natural minerals with resin creates an incredibly durable, nearly impenetrable material. These non-porous products create an easy to clean and low-maintenance countertop. This means that you don’t have to worry about staining your counters, and you won’t have to re-seal them every year. But that does not imply that quartz slabs are invincible – because of their resinous composition, quartz slabs cannot handle intense heat. Setting your hot pots and pans directly on your quartz countertops will harm the surface, causing it to burn or even melt. These slabs are also not suitable for outdoors.
When quartz slabs are made, manufacturers add different pigments to create colors and designs. The advantage of this is that they can mimic the look of natural stones, including marble and granite. Typically, these slabs are colored to be grey or white, but the color combinations are endless. Homeowners love quartz because of its pattern consistency; with natural stone, there is only so much control you can have over the veining and patterns that appear because it is cut straight from the Earth. But with quartz countertops, you will have a predictable, lovely countertop. Our knowledgeable staff is here to guide you through the process and assist you in any way you need. For many years we have strived to provide our Oregon residents with the highest quality materials.
